Norwich Research Leads Network (#NorReL)

09:00–15:30 on 21 March 2018

The Research Leads Network is an informal peer support network to share ideas and practice among like-minded educators who are interested in using research to inform their practice. On a practical level, this is what we do:

Monthly meetings, open to anyone interested in that month’s topic and/or speaker. You don’t have to be a member of the Network to attend (so you can bring a colleague if you like)
Research Lead training with Stuart Kime from Evidence Based Education (21 March). We would particularly recommend this for Research Leads working on Evidence-Based Practice Fund projects, as evaluation is Stuart’s area of expertise and so important to funded projects
Networking, both formal and informal, and direct contact with experts in their fields who are working with Norwich Research School to share best practice and translate it into the classroom. […]

The Beauty of Networks (from someone who hates networking)

Friends, family, colleagues are precious to me, and have been invaluable. My network of “other mums” (who are primarily my friends) allow me to balance work, life and family by picking my kids up when I can’t get there, reminding me that tomorrow is the school fete, and I need to take in some cake money… and chatting into the small hours about rubbish.

Also important, the conversations I have with colleagues in the coffee room remind me on a daily basis that I’m not the only one who finds things tough/ busy/ amazing/ thankless/ wonderful at times, and I pick up good ideas for teaching particular topics and lessons.

But sometimes the formalization of these groups (or certain aspects of them) can make them even more valuable. We now have Department planning meetings, where we can take a particular aspect of the coffee room conversation (“How do you teach X? What went well last time? How could we work together to make it better this time?”) and make it an integral part of the CPD process. […]
